The holiday this year is quite different but our spirits still deserve joy, am I right? While some big festivals and gatherings are taking a long winter's nap in 2020, there are still plenty of holiday and Christmas events around Boston to keep kids busy and feeling festive this winter. From socially distanced Santa photo ops to dazzling outdoor light displays to gingerbread house making, here are our top picks for when your family wants to venture outside and enjoy a holly jolly good time - safely.


1. Santa's Wonderland

Daily through December 24

Enjoy a free contactless photo with Santa at Santa’s Wonderland in Foxborough. To keep everyone safe this year, timed reservations are required.

2. The Polar Express 4-D Experience

Daily through December 31
The Polar Express 4-D Experience is based on the inspiring and beloved Caldecott Medal children's book by Chris Van Allsburg. Featured in digital 3-D and brought to life with 4-D multisensory effects, this is an immersive experience for the whole family to enjoy.
Daily through January 2
Pack up the car and head to Gillette Stadium for a holiday lights drive-thru. Cruise through a drive-through Blizzard Tunnel, countdown the 12 Days of Christmas, visit a Winter Wonderland and more at this lights experience takes holiday decorating to the next level.

Escape to a winter wonderland filled with safe, seasonal activities. Follow the trail of festive holiday trees, try your hand at curling and other complimentary winter games on Seaport Common, and keep an eye out for Seaport’s newest friend, Betty the Yeti.

This year, the Southwick Zoo in turning into a Winter Wonderland you can visit from the safety and warmth of your car.  Drive through the Frozen Forest, cruise through Whoville, and have a socially distanced meet and greet with Santa.
